Description

This 11-day tour from Tangier covers the imperial cities and the Sahara Desert: you will stroll through the blue town of Chefchaouen, visit Volubilis, Meknes, Fez and Marrakech, ride a camel over the dunes of Merzouga and sleep in a desert camp. It is a private, personalized trip on which you will discover the customs and traditions of the Berbers, the native people of North Africa, who live in villages on the slopes of the Atlas. Tour itinerary

DAY 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen

Welcome at Tangier airport or port. After a short visit of this Mediterranean city, we will continue to the blue town of Chefchaouen, where you will spend the night.

DAY 2: Chefchaouen

After breakfast, guided tour of the Chefchaouen medina, including the Ras el Maa spring and Outa el Hammam square. Overnight in Chefchaouen.

DAY 3: Chefchaouen, Meknes, Fez

After breakfast, we will travel to the Roman city of Volubilis and then to Meknes, one of Morocco’s ancient imperial cities, where we will visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail and the Bab Mansour gate. After lunch, we will continue to Fez. Overnight at a riad or hotel.

DAY 4: Guided tour of Fez

Today, in this UNESCO World Heritage city, you will have a guided tour with a local guide. You will visit the medieval medina with the Attarine and Bou Inania madrasas, the Nejjarine fountain, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss and the Qaraouiyine mosque. Overnight at your riad or hotel.

DAY 5: Fez, Ifrane, Ziz Valley, the Sahara Desert

Departure for the desert across the Middle Atlas Mountains, Ifrane and the cedar forest of Azrou, with free time for lunch in Midelt. Then the Ziz Valley will welcome you with its palm trees before you reach the Sahara Desert. Dinner and overnight at a riad or hotel by the dunes of Erg Chebbi.

DAY 6: Erg Chebbi and camel trek

After breakfast, you will start a spectacular route around the dunes: you will pass oases, the village of Khamlia to listen to Gnaoua music, the old Mifiss mines and the Tissardmine oasis, and meet Berber nomad families who still live in camel-hair tents. Lunch in Rissani and return to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will ride out by camel to watch the sunset and spend the night in a desert camp, where you will enjoy a Moroccan dinner and Berber music with drums and dancing. Night in a traditional nomad tent.

DAY 7: Sahara Desert – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

Wake up to a spectacular desert sunrise. Return to the hotel to shower and have breakfast, then depart for the Todra Gorges via Erfoud and Tinejdad. Visit and lunch at the Todra Gorges. In the afternoon, continue to your riad or hotel in the Dades Valley.

DAY 8: Dades Gorges – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, you will leave for Marrakech via the Valley of Roses and Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient Berber village where films such as The Mummy and Gladiator were shot. After lunch, you will continue to Marrakech across the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Overnight at the riad.

DAY 9: Guided tour of Marrakech

Today you will have a guided tour of the Marrakech medina with a local guide, including the Saadian Tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Dar Si Said museum, the Koutoubia minaret and the Majorelle Garden. In the afternoon, visit the modern Gueliz district and the lively Jemaa el-Fna square. Overnight at your riad or hotel.
