Rabat, the capital of Morocco, is a calm, clean and elegant city, with wide avenues, gardens and UNESCO-listed heritage. It is one of the four imperial cities and a perfect stop between Casablanca and the north of the country.
The Kasbah of the Udayas
A 12th-century fortress at the mouth of the Bou Regreg river, with white and blue streets reminiscent of Chefchaouen. Don’t miss the Andalusian garden and the terrace overlooking the ocean and the city of Salé.
The Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V
The Hassan Tower is the unfinished minaret of what was meant to be the largest mosque in the world, commissioned by the Almohad caliph Yaqub al-Mansur in the 12th century. Opposite stands the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, with spectacular decoration and royal guards at the entrance.
The Chellah necropolis
Roman ruins and a Marinid necropolis surrounded by gardens and storks. It is one of the most charming places in Rabat.
The medina
Quieter than those of Fez or Marrakech, it is ideal for shopping without pressure and seeing local life.
