Tangier, just 14 kilometers from Europe across the Strait, is the gateway to Africa for many travelers. A city of artists and writers, a blend of cultures with views of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, it is the ideal starting point for exploring northern Morocco.
What to see in Tangier
- The Kasbah: at the top of the medina, with the Kasbah Museum and views of the Strait and the Spanish coast.
- The medina and the Petit Socco: alleys, historic cafés and markets.
- The Grand Socco: the large square linking the medina with the modern city.
- Café Hafa: a legendary café on terraces above the sea, frequented by writers and musicians.
- Cape Spartel: where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic.
- Caves of Hercules: with an opening to the sea shaped like a map of Africa.
